MASON CITY, Iowa – On Wednesday, the well-being of seniors is in the spotlight, It is National Senior Health and Fitness day. Organizations across the country are celebrating and promoting fitness in older age by offering incentives from several local facilities.
The Mason City YMCA, for example, is celebrating the dedicated day by welcoming those 65 and greater to try the Y for free. Classes, including aqua aerobics, aqua toning and “Rusty Hinges” are available to them to try for a small fee.
The goal for the day is to keep older Americans healthy and fit, which the YMCA director says is consistent with the Y’s mission of strengthening our community. “Keeping people active at any age is important. The longer people are active, the healthier they are. The better quality of life they have. Joining groups is also good for everyone’s mental health,” says Executive Director, Liz Conley.
She says there are plenty of options for seniors of all fitness levels.
